LATE QUATERNARY EVOLUTION OF THE PO DELTA AND VENETIAN-FRIULIAN PLAIN

Leaders: Fontana Alessandro (University of Padova, Italy), Marco Stefani (University of Ferrara, Italy), Luca Minarelli (INGV L’Aquila, Italy)

Description: The field trip will show some of the key areas of the alluvial and coastal plains facing the Adriatic Sea, from the subsiding region of Po river Delta to the alluvial megafans and fans of the rivers fed by south-eastern Alps. From the area of Ferrara to the coast and the reclaimed territories at the mouth of Po Delta; the tour will pass along the fringes of Venice Lagoon and will arrive up to pede-Alpine zone, visiting the alluvial fans of Cellina and the megafan of Tagliamento River. The visited sites allow to reconstruct the fluvioglacial aggradation of the LGM, the successive formation of incised river valleys and the interaction of rivers with the Holocene transgression and modern anthropogenic activity.
